My grandmother, who raised me, made me wear saddle shoes when I was in grade school. I remember the tantrums I threw over having to put those black and white shoes on my feet. Funny: there are no photos of me in those shoes. Funnier: as a teenager and adult, I’ve worn a countless number of shoes clearly inspired by saddle shoes.
